Man City star suffers injury on national duty, Barca planning to sell quartet in January and more news

Ahead of Pep Guardiola’s side’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, the England international has suffered a ‘small injury’ on national duty.

Manchester City and England forward Raheem Sterling missed his national team’s 2-0 defeat to Belgium after suffering a ‘small injury’ in the build-up to the game, per Gareth Southgate.

The England national team manager told Sky Sports that Sterling felt ‘something’ a couple of days before his national team’s Sunday’s clash with Belgium. He further claimed that the Man City star started training on Saturday but had to leave midway as he wasn’t feeling well.

Southgate was confident that the injury suffered by the 25-year-old isn’t severe and that he would be fine and available for selection by the end of this week.

Guardiola will be hoping that turns out to be the case when his side travels to Premier League leaders Tottenham on Saturday in an attempt to abridge the five-point gap between them and the North London outfit.

The Camp Nou outfit are reeling from the financial impact of COVID-19 pandemic and are looking to get some names off their inflated wage bill in January.

Barcelona are planning to sell four players in the January transfer window in an attempt to make room for new signings, according to Sport.

Left-back Junior Firpo is one of the players the club would try to offload in two months’ time. The former Real Betis full-back has been unable to nail down a first-team spot since his €18m move to the Camp Nou outfit in 2019, with Jordi Alba ahead of him in the pecking order.

Marcus Braithwaite is the second of two players who would be allowed to find a new club in January. The striker was secured as an emergency signing in February and was never viewed as a long-term solution to the club’s woes in front of goal.

Youngster Matheus Fernandes and centre-back Samuel Umtiti are the last two players that Barca would seek to offload in two months’ time.  The former is way down the pecking order at the club whereas Umtiti has seen his seen his four-and-a-half-year stay at Camp Nou marred by injuries.

The 36-year-old striker spent three years at Arsenal between 2006 and 2009 before he went on to play for the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid.

Former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor played a huge role in convincing summer signing Thomas Partey to join the Gunners, per Goal.

Adebayor spent three years at the North London outfit before his controversial move to Manchester City in 2009. The Togo international then went on to play for Real Madrid before returning to the Premier League for a three-year stint with Tottenham.

However, despite playing for two of Arsenal’s biggest rivals in the Premier League, the 36-year-old advised Partey to join the Gunners after the Ghana international was approached by several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea.

Partey acted on the advice of the Togo legend and sealed a deadline day move to Mikel Arteta’s side after they paid his £45m release clause to Atletico Madrid.
