Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men currently sit six points behind fourth-placed Chelsea ahead of next Monday’s clash between the two sides at Stamford Bridge.

Scott McTominay has resumed training with the Manchester United squad a week before the club’s next Monday’s clash with rivals Chelsea.

The 23-year-old missed the whole of last month as well as February’s winter break after injuring his knee during his side’s Boxing Day victory over Newcastle United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had raised fears at the time that the Scotland international might have suffered ligament damage as the midfielder was seen leaving the stadium on crutches after the fixture.

However, with McTominay being pictured training with his fellow teammates on Sunday, it’s expected that he’ll be a part of United’s squad that will travel to London on February 17.

His month-long absence from the first team proved to be a big blow to United as they won only 2 out of the six games which they played while the Scot was on the injury table.

The Red Devils managed a nervy 2-0 win over Burnley in the next game they took part in after the midfielder succumbed to his injury on Boxing Day.

After that it was mostly doom and gloom for the Red Devils as they fell to a 2-0 defeat against a fully poised Arsenal side in the New Year Day’s clash between the two sides.

The 4-0 victory over Norwich in their next Premier League game was followed by a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool, with Burnley taking the revenge of their defeat in the reverse fixture by handing the Old Trafford residents a 2-0 loss at home turf.

United then failed to break down a resilient Wolverhampton Wanderers side as Nuno Espirito Santo’s men kept them quiet to manage a 0-0 draw. That means that the Red Devils managed to grab only 7 points out of the 18 they contested for in the 23-year-old’s absence.

His month-long injury proved to be a blessing in disguise for the Scot’s fellow teammate Fred who used the opportunity to cement his status as a first-team player.

After enduring a difficult start to his life as a Manchester United player, the 26-year-old midfielder has really come into his own in the past few months to justify the €59.00m transfer fee which the club paid to Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk for the defensive midfielder in 2018.

What makes his contributions to the squad more impressive this season is the way the Brazilian has managed to retain his composure even without having the likes of Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay to play alongside him in the middle of the park.

Therefore, while McTominay has now returned to full fitness and might play against Chelsea next Monday, Fred is expected to partner the 23-year-old and not be placed on the bench by his manager.
