Man United interested in Championship winger, Bartomeu reveals non-transferable players at Barcelona and more

Although they remain in negotiations with Borussia Dortmund for forward Jadon Sancho, the Red Devils are also looking elsewhere in the market.

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Bournemouth forward David Brooks and could make a serious bid for the Championship winger, as per Manchester Evening News.

The report adds that the 23-year-old Wales international has been on United’s transfer radar for quite some time as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer attempts to strengthen his side’s attacking department ahead of the start of the 2020/21 campaign.

Whether or not United have identified Brooks as an alternative to Sancho remains to be seen as their negotiations with Dortmund over the England international continue to stall. The Bundesliga giants want United to pay €120m for Sancho but the Red Devils are not too keen on spending that fee.

The Red Devils’ need for new attacking players was made evident by the manner of their exit from the UEFA Europa League last week. They created the lion’s share of chances against a quality Sevilla side but were punished for the profligacy of their young attack force in front of the goal.

He was speaking to the press after an extended board of directors’ meeting during which it was decided that both Quique Setien and Eric Abidal would be relieved from their duties.

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has identified eight players that the club has identified as ‘non-transferable’ this summer.

Lionel Messi tops the list of players that Barca want to stay at the club, with the Argentine joined by fellow forwards Antoine Griezmann, Ansu Fati and Ousmanne Dembele.

The Barca president also identified Marc Andre Ter Stegen, Nelson Semedo, Clement Lenglet and Frenkie de Jong as the players the club will be ‘counting on’ in the future.

Conspicuous by their absence from the list were heavyweights Luis Suarez, Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. The quartet has been an indispensable part of Barca for years but a combination of average form and arrival of new faces has seen their value for the club diminish.

Manchester United and Manchester City won’t be playing on the opening weekend to get extra rest having qualified for the latter stages of respective European competitions.

Premier League is set to release the fixture list for the 2020/21 campaign at 9AM BST on Thursday morning, reports Daily Mail.

The new English top-flight season will commence on September 12 as the COVID-19 pandemic has forced it to become one-month shorter and more hectic than the previous campaign.

Liverpool would be looking to retain their first Premier League title in three decades and the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea are expected to be the closest title challengers to the Reds.

The fixture-release event is going to be an exciting one for fans of Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion and Fulham as the three sides gained promotion to the English top-flight.
