Man United transfer news: Sporting Lisbon coach provides update on Bruno Fernandes’ future

Bruno Fernandes' transfer to Man United might be in jeopardy
The 25-year-old has been in form this season

The 25-year-old Sporting midfielder has reportedly agreed terms with the Red Devils but both the clubs haven’t been able to reach an agreement on his transfer fee.

Sporting Lisbon assistant coach Emanuel Ferro has stated that he doesn’t think Man United transfer target Bruno Fernandes would be leaving the club this month.

Fernandez has ignited a long-running discussion on his transfer fee between the Red devils and Sporting, with both the clubs still unable to reach an agreement.

The Red devils are unwavering in their stance that £42m is the maximum amount they’d be willing to part with for a player who also attracted interest from fellow Premier League club Tottenham last summer.

Sporting, meanwhile, are adamant that given the season the 25-year-old is having at the club, as the midfielder has scored 8 goals in 16 league appearances this campaign, they won’t be selling him for anything less than £55.3m without including add-ons.

The comments by the Sporting assistant coach make it clear that as far as the Portuguese side is concerned, Fernandes would remain at the club beyond the January transfer window.

He told Portuguese newspaper A Bola: ‘There is a lot of talk about him leaving.’

‘I believe that outside people feel this more than us. We don’t feel it. We don’t feel Bruno’s thinking about leaving. He is competitive and involved.’

His remarks would undoubtedly pour cold water over the hopes of Man United faithful who would like their side to complete the Portuguese’s transfer before the end of this month.

Injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay and the poor form of Nemanja Matic has made United’s midfield a shadow of its past-self when it was considered as one of the best in Europe.

With the Portuguese side reluctant to decrease their valuation of their star-asset, Sky Italia has reported that United have started looking elsewhere.

The Old Trafford residents have set their sights on Inter Milan’s Matias Vecino in an effort to strengthen their midfield department this month.

What makes United hopeful of landing the 28-year-old is probably the situation the Italian is currently finding himself in since the arrival of new manager Antonio Conte in the summer.

The former Chelsea boss has relegated Vecino to the sidelines of his squad and didn’t even include him in the matchday squad for his side’s last Sunday’s 1-1 draw with fellow Serie A outfit Lecce.

But given the age of the Italian who will turn 29 next year and his lack of playing time, not many United fans might be happy if the club ended up signing him over the in-form Fernandes.
