After completing their one-year loan spells with Inter Milan and AS Roma, the pair will return to the Old Trafford outfit next month.
Manchester United have decided against extending the loan spells of Alexis Sanchez and Chris Smalling with Inter Milan and AS Roma.
The pair moved to Italy on a season-long loan last June and saw their stays in the Serie A extended for two months due to the coronavirus pandemic. Under the current agreement they are bound to report back at Old Trafford after the final Serie A matchday scheduled on August 2.
United have the next stage of Europa League in mind as the duo’s current sides could face the Red Devils in the latter stages of the competition. None of them will be eligible to play in the 2nd tier European competition given that United are also in it.
