Man Utd news: Three Stars left out of Champions League squad, message sent to Sancho and more

After a one-year absence from Europe’s elite club competition, the Old Trafford outfit will once again be playing in the Champions League group stages this season.

Manchester United have left Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero out of their squad for the Champions League group stages.

The Red Devils’ manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has picked his 25-player A-list squad for group stage clashes with Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir, with United kicking off their 2020/21 Champions League campaign with a tough away trip to PSG next Tuesday.

New signings Edinson Cavani, Facudo Pellistri and Alex Telles – who moved to Old Trafford on Deadline Day – have all been named in the squad alongside Donny van de Beek who joined United earlier in the summer transfer window.

Romero has seen himself fall down the pecking order of goalkeepers which includes Lee Grant, Dean Henderson and David De Gea. Rojo and Jones, meanwhile, didn’t see their name in the squad after the duo failed to get ahead of the likes of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Axel Tuanzebe.

The Red Devils failed to sign the 21-year-old England international this summer after Borussia Dortmund rejected their €100m bid for the winger.

Manchester United haven’t given up on signing Jadon Sancho after failing to land the Borussia Dortmund forward this summer, per Daglabedt TV [via The Sun].

The Norwegian outlet state that the 21-year-old still remains at the top of United’s transfer wish-list with the Old Trafford outlet reportedly telling Sancho: “We haven’t given up on you!”

United’s stance regarding Sancho might ignite a three-club race for the Dortmund star in the 2021 summer transfer window, as the likes of Bayern Munich and Liverpool are also reportedly interested in signing the winger before the start of next season.

Such a scenario would be ideal for Dortmund who refused to sell Sancho until their €120m valuation of the Englishman was met. Lucien Favre’s side could increase their asking price of Sancho further if the competition for his signature heats up and the 21-year-old has another brilliant season with the Bundesliga outfit.

The former Crystal Palace full-back enjoys a reputation of rattling opposition forwards with his forceful tackles in the final third.

Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been the most efficient tackler among English players in the Premier League over the past 12 months, a study conducted by BetVictor shows.

The 22-year-old England international enjoys a reputation of making forceful tackles and stats reveal that he ranks among the five most efficient tacklers overall since making his debut in the English top-flight with Crystal Palace in 2017/18 season.

Wan-Bissaka made 6.1 clean tackles per foul (TPF) over the 2019/20 season, ahead of the likes of Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold (2.5 TPF), Manchester City’s Kyle Walker (1.0 TPF), and Chelsea youngster Reece James (1.6 TPF).

The Man United right-back wasn’t named in the England national team squad for the upcoming games, but he could put pressure on Gareth Southgate by improving the attacking side of his game with the Red Devils.
