Despite having the likes of Benjamin Mendy, Angelino, and Oleksandr Zinchenko competing for the left-back spot, the Citizens are keen to strengthen that department.
Manchester City aren’t letting the coronavirus pandemic affect their transfer plans as they remain keen on signing Sevilla left-back Pablo Perez when the transfer window reopens.
Pep Guardiola’s side’s pursuit of a left-back might come as a surprise to many, given the fact that the reigning Premier League champions are already well-stocked in that department.
Joao Cancelo, the right full-back who joined the club from Serie A giants Juventus last summer, can also play in the left-back role.
While describing the 19-year-old as an ‘astonishing’ young talent, Marca reported earlier today that Man City are among a host of clubs after the player’s signature.
Apart from the reigning Premier League champions, Bundesliga title challengers RB Leipzig and last season’s Champions League semi-finalists Ajax are also keeping tabs on the player.
Marca further reports that the trio of clubs are willing to pay the release clause, and while it doesn’t state what it is, it has made it clear that the amount is affordable for Perez’ potential suitors.
The Spanish side aren’t too happy with several top European sides interested in their left-back and look to fend off interest from them by trying to convince Perez to sign a new deal with the club.
For a player who might initiate a transfer battle between three top European sides for his services, Perez is yet to showcase his potential at the senior level.
The 19-year-old joined Los Palanganas before the start of this season from Spanish youth league outfit AD Nervion U19 for an undisclosed fee.
He is yet to make a senior team appearance for Julian Lopetegui’s side, though has reportedly impressed while playing for Sevilla’s youth side.
Also, while the Spanish youngster may not have been able to make his presence felt in La Liga, he has already been capped at the U-19 level by his national team.
