He will be out of his contract
Although the Chilean has impressed with his performances in domestic cup competitions this season, the Sky Blues are unwilling to pay his big wages beyond the summer.
Manchester City are prepared to let Claudio Bravo leave on a free once the Chilean’s contract with the club expires in the summer, reports Sport Witness.
The 36-year-old joined from Barcelona in the summer of 2016 with a view of replacing the then number one Joe Hart in City’s starting line-up.
Bravo has mostly put on City’s shirt in domestic cup competitions this term, with his manager Pep Guardiola often praising the Chilean for his penalty heroics.
His brilliant performances in domestic cup competitions haven’t convinced City to offer Bravo a new contract as they remain unwilling to pay his big wages beyond this summer.
Aside from that, the presence of another able deputy to Ederson in their ranks has also convinced the reigning Premier League champions to let the 36-year-old leave for nothing.
Zack Steffen, who is currently on a year-long loan spell at Fortuna Dusseldorf, has caught the eye of the club’s higher-ups with his performances in Bundesliga.
The American shot-stopper, who is 12 years junior to the man he’s set to replace at the City bench, moved to the Premier League last summer before he was immediately loaned out.
His season-long spell in the German top-flight has seen Steffen conceding 36 goals in 17 appearances, while keeping two cleansheets in the process.
Since joining Man City in a £17million deal four years ago, Bravo has made 60 appearances for the club in all competitions.
The majority of the games in which Bravo has appeared for City in the Premier League came during his first season at the Etihad, during which he started 22 games for the Sky Blues.
While his importance to the City side diminished following the arrival of current number-one Ederson in 2017, Bravo continued to impress with his performances in domestic cup competitions.
His next career move remains shrouded in mystery, although there are rumors that the 36-year-old will move to the MLS once his contract with City expires in a few months’ time.
