Manchester United will be without strikers Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford when they face Arsenal on Monday night, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed.
The Manchester United manager further confirmed that after playing in United's Carabao Cup penalty-shootout victory over Rochdale in midweek, Paul Pogba is also a major doubt for the game.
The French World-Cup winner aggravated an ankle injury during the game on Wednesday, and was unable to attend the club's post-match squad dinner.
Solskjaer hinted on Friday that Pogba is facing a race against time to be fit for Monday's fixture, a clash which is a must-win for United if they are to keep alive their hopes of finishing in the top 4.
And with the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw already on the sidelines, Pogba's injury has come at the most unfortunate time for the Red devils.
Solskjaer - Pogba's ankle is very swollen
Speaking to the press during United's weekly press conference held at their Carrington training ground on Friday afternoon, Solskjaer looked upbeat despite a cloud of injury troubles hanging over the club.
When asked about Pogba, here's what the Norwegian manager had to offer: “The situation is he finished the game, 90 minutes, which was fantastic, but he got a knock to his ankle which is very swollen,”
“So it was better not to go there with the team and he's in a race for Monday. But that's the way it is.”
Solskjaer also provided updates on the injury situation of Luke Shaw: “Luke's back in training today, so let's see how he is. He's getting there so let's see how he reacts the next couple of days. He's been working really hard, so we hope to see him before international break.”
Asked if Martian and Rashford could make it in time for the Arsenal game, he said: “I wouldn't put my life on it but that's part of this game, you work with what you have and we're looking forward to this game.”
How will an injury-depleted United line up against Arsenal
Following United's 2-0 defeat at the London Stadium last weekend and their dismal performance against a lower league Rochdale side in the midweek, pressure has been growing on Solskjaer to deliver results.
The absence of both Martial and Rashford means that the Norwegian might once again turn to Daniel James and Mason Greenwood to try and salvage the situation, with Nemanja Matic replacing Pogba in the middle of the park.
If Shaw is unable to get back to full fitness then Ashley Young will be once again asked by his manager to pay in the left-back role.
That decision could worryingly expose the Manchester United defense to the pace of new Arsenal signing Nicholas Pepe, who got his first Premier League goal against Aston Villa last weekend and will be looking to add to his tally on Monday.
Possible United team to play Arsenal: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Young; McTominay, Matic; Pereira, Mata, James; Greenwood.
