Manchester United off to a flyer as Rahsford scored twice in first Premier League game against Chelsea. Ole is making good ground as his opening fixture record improves. Whereas Lampard seemed helpless as Chelsea hit the post twice in the opening half.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer won only 8 games last season as interim manager and United fans showed concerns over his performance. But it looks that Ole has done well in the summer window as the world’s most expensive defender Harry Maguire helped reds to keep first clean sheet of the season.

New signings – Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire – combined well and United looked quite solid at the back.

Manchester United looked full of momentum on Sunday and this momentum can carry the young united side to a long way. Players like Paul Pogba also performed in the emphatic win over Chelsea.

Whereas Lampard’s Chelsea looked menacing in their opening match. Shambolic defense cost Chelsea all 3 points at Old Trafford.

As it happened

Rashford scored from the spot as both Tammy Abraham and Emerson Palmieri hit the post. Chelsea looked more composed on the ball in the opening 20 minutes but Zouma’s challenge on Rashford changed the complexion of the match.

Despite playing well in the first 45 minutes, Chelsea went 1-0 down at half time. Chelsea debutant Mason Mount looked threatning in the first half as he made some important runs through the middle.

United look more threatning in the second half as Martial scored second goal from a brilliant Andreas Pereira‘s cross. Two minutes later, Rashford scored his second and United’s 3rd from a brilliant long-range pass from Paul Pogba.

However, it was a dream day for United debutant Daniel James who scored 4th for United in 81st minute. Just nine minutes after coming from the bench, James scored his first Manchester United goal and put the game to bed. This new United team looked more threatning on the counter attacks and with the presence of Rashford and Martial, United attack looks lethal.

Chelsea looked great in pre-season but their pre-season form didn’t reflect at Old Traffod. Lampard faced tough decision before the game as Wednesday’s Super Cup forced him to leave star players on the bench.

Chelsea’s back four looked out of shape in the entire game especially Kurt Zouma who coneded the penalty with a rash challenge on Marcus Rashford. United hit on counters many times as there were plenty of wide spaces open at Chelsea backline.

Christian Pulisic also made his first Chelsea appearance in Premier League when he came from the bench replacing Ross Barkley. After going 1-0 down, Blues kept on chasing the game and forced David de Gea to made some stunning saves.

Lampard also has an injury dilemma as Antonio Rudiger, Ruben Loftus Cheek, and Callum Hudson-Odoi all out due to injury. Next up for Chelsea is Liverpool in UEFA Super Cup and then Leicester City in Premier League. Lampard will take some positives from this game and with key players returning from injury, things wll get better for former English midfielder.
