Build up to the Sunday's clash at Old Trafford
After an average start to their PL season, Man United and Spurs will be looking to go to the International break on a higher note.
Jose Mourinho will return to the ground where he once used to be a manager as Spurs travel to Old Trafford on the back of relentless fixtures schedule.
However, Spurs have done well with their congested run of fixtures, qualifying for the quarter-finals of EFL Cup by beating Chelsea on penalties and making their way to Europa League group stage after 7-2 thumping against Maccabi Haifa.
Talking about the Reds, Ole’s men go into Sunday’s fixture on the back of two successive wins against Brighton & Hove Albion – one in Premier League and other in Carabao Cup fourth round.
These two clubs were in the heart of controversies last weekend as two late penalties were awarded which changed the complexion of the standings in the table. So, Mourinho’s return to Old Trafford will be a must-watch this Sunday evening.
South Korean was substituted with a hamstring injury at half-time in a 1-1 draw against Newcastle last weekend however, Jose Mourinho did not rule him out from Man United clash.
Giovani Lo Celso, who was limped off with a knock and also found back of the net against Maccabi Haifa during mid-week, is another concern for the North London Club. Whereas, Gareth Bale who has started individual training isn’t expected to be in contention for selection.
On the other hand, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that he has no new injury concern ahead of Sunday’s clash. Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe are the only notable absentees while Harry Maguire has recovered from last weekend’s ankle injury.
The Red Devils made plenty of changes in a 3-0 win over Brighton in mid-week while several key players involving Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood, and Bruno Fernandes were rested and all of them are expected to start against Spurs.
Manchester United have won 11 of last 14 meetings against Tottenham while Spurs coming on top only three times.
With lots of goals scored in the first three Premier League game weeks, none of these two teams is expected to keep a clean sheet as Sunday’s visitors have only kept two clean sheets in their last 27 away fixtures.
Manchester United’s predicted XI: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Pogba, Matic; Greenwood, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial
Spurs predicted XI: Lloris; Doherty, Sanchez, Dier, Davies; Hojbjerg, Winks; Lucas, Alli, Bergwijn; Kane
Predicted result: Manchester United are unbeaten in the last three meetings including 2-1 win in last season’s corresponding fixture. And we are expecting United to extend their unbeaten run with another 2-1 win on this Sunday.
