Match reports: Sheffield embarrass Chelsea, Liverpool held by Burnley and West Ham hammer Norwich

Frank Lampard’s side push for playing in next season’s Champions League suffered a major blow at the hands of Sheffield United.

David McGoldrick finally broke his Premier League duck with a brace as Sheffield United dealt a major blow to Chelsea’s hopes of playing in the Champions League next season.

The 32-year-old Irish forward, who was yet to find a goal during his 2-year spell in the Premier League, scored twice on Saturday as Frank Lampard was once again left to rue the poor defensive acumen of his under-fire back four.

Oli McBurnie scored between McGoldrick’s brace to complete the misery for Chelsea who could be out of the top four provided both Leicester City and Manchester United win their respective games on Sunday noon and Monday evening, respectively.

The Blades’ victory on Saturday meant that they have climbed to sixth in the English top-flight table after winning their last four home games on the spin, with Chris Wilder’s men now favorites to at least qualify for next season’s UEFA Europa League.

The Reds’ 24-game winning streak on home turf was brought to a halt thanks to some questionable refereeing and excellent goalkeeping by Burnley’s Nick Pope.

Liverpool dropped points at Anfield for the first time this season as Burnley fought the Premier League champions to a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Andy Robertson opened the scoring with an 33rd minute header but a 69 th minute strike from Jay Rodriguez ensured that both the teams had something to show for the game.

Nick Pope was the man of the match from the away side as his 10 saves during the 90 minutes kept Burnley in the game despite a Reds ‘onslaught on The Clarets’ goal.

Their draw with Sean Dyche’s men means that the Anfield outfit will now have to win all three of their remaining games if they are to secure a century of points and break the 100-point record that Manchester City set in their title-winning 2017/18 campaign.

After spending only one year in the English top-flight, Norwich City are once again condemned to spend at least one season in the backwaters of the Championship.

Michael Antonio scored all four goals on Sunday to confirm Norwich City’s status as the first side to be relegated from the Premier League this season.

The West Ham forward began his incredible 90-minute scoring spree with a close-range strike in the 11th minute, and scored his 2nd goal of the night from a set piece just before the half-time.

His deadly performance in front of the goal continued into the 2nd half as the 30-year-old nodded in a header past the hapless Tim Krul, before completing the miserable night for the Canaries with a flicked effort from just inside the six yard box at the 74th minute mark.

Saturday’s result means that Norwich, who have been relegated from the top-flight for a record fifth time in their history, are 13 points behind 17th placed Watford who eased their relegation fears for the time being with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Newcastle United.
