Mbappe ‘wanted’ Real Madrid move, Zidane gives Hazard injury update and more news

The Paris Saint-Germain star has been linked with a move to Los Blancos, with Zinedine Zidane reportedly eyeing a deal for the Frenchman next summer.

Unai Emery has made a stunning revelation that Kylian Mbappe wanted to join Real Madrid when he coached him at Paris Saint-Germain.

The current Villarreal manager was holding the reins at Parc des Princes between 2016 and 2018, and made the revelation while talking to Cadena Cope on Monday.

Mbappe has long been the subject of transfer interest from Madrid whose manager Zinedine Zidane is reportedly a huge fan of the striker.

The 21-year-old is under contract with PSG until 2022 and has scored an eye-watering 94 goals in just 128 appearances since joining them from Monaco in the summer of 2017.

After barely featuring in his maiden season at the Santiago Bernabeu, the 29-year-old Belgium striker is yet to make his first La Liga appearance of the 2020/21 campaign.

Zinedine Zidane has claimed that Eden Hazard has already ‘stepped on grass’ after an injury that was ‘worse than [initially] expected’, per Marca.

The 29-year-old Belgian was one of the best players in Europe’s top five leagues when Real Madrid signed him from Chelsea last summer. He had built up his reputation with amazing performances for the Premier League outfit and was expected to repeat them in Spain.

Fourteen months and seven injuries later, the forward has featured in only 40% of games that Madrid have played with him at the helm, contributing only 1 La Liga goal in the process.

Hazard’s latest injury, which he suffered before the start of the ongoing campaign, has forced him to sit out the first six games of the La Liga season and he will also miss his side’s Champions League opener against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday.

The Atletico Madrid midfielder is currently in the final few months of his contract and will be available as a free agent next summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are set to begin talks with Diego Costa in January that could see the former Chelsea midfielder reunite with Jose Mourinho, per Don Balon.

Costa, 32, is currently in the final year of his contract at Atletico Madrid, where he has netted only 18 goals since returning from Chelsea in 2018.

Mourinho was the manager at Stamford Bridge when the Blues completed the signing of the Spain international from Atleti. He was at his best under the Portuguese and managed to score 20 goals in 26 Premier League appearances in his only full season under him.

And now it is being reported that Mourinho is eyeing a reunion with striker to give more competition to Harry Kane, though Spurs would have to wait until next summer as they are only considering the signature of the Spaniard on a free transfer.
