Newcastle United still rivaling with Southampton for Man Utd star

With the left-back not getting enough game time at Old Trafford, the Magpies have reportedly agreed to sign him on a six-month loan deal this month .

Newcastle United are closing in on the loan signing of Manchester United left-back Brandon Williams this month, per The Shields Gazette .

Steve Bruce's side signed Jamal Lewis from Norwich City in the summer to address their left-back department. But the young Englishman has been unable to silence his critics with his performances since his move to Newcastle and might soon find himself out of the starting XI altogether.

That's because Williams, who impressed for United in the early stages of the season, didn't drop to the bench due to poor form or performances. Instead it was the signing of his much senior counterpart Alex Telles from Porto that limited playing time for the 20-year-old.

And despite Telles putting in several excellent performances of late, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is wary of putting too much trust in the Portuguese – hence the reason why the Norwegian is against any idea of selling Williams and prefers a loan move for the Englishman.

What is Brandon Williams Salary?

The 20-year-old joined United at the age of seven and has since them rose through the club's ranks before making his debut for the senior side last year. His first senior contract with the Red Devils saw Williams earn a weekly salary of £ 4,000.

However, after the left-back put in several excellent performances in his first campaign with the first team, United wasted no time in offering him an improved deal, under which Brandon Williams currently earns £40,000 – rising to £60,000 – per week in salary at Man Utd.
