Out-of-form Arsenal hammer sluggish Chelsea

Arsenal register their first win in last 7 Premier League matches as Mikel Arteta’s men move six points clear from the relegation.

It was a perfect Boxing Day for the Gunners and Arsenal fans following their impressive 3-1 win over London-rivals. Chelsea had a chance to burst into top three but a sluggish display at the Emirates pushed them down to seventh.

Alexandre Lacazette, from the penalty spot, put the Gunners ahead in the 34th-minute and Granit Xhaka doubled their advantage just before the half time.

Frank Lampard wasn’t pleased with his team’s performance and he brought on Jorginho and Callum Hudson-Odoi after the restart. But in the 56th-minute, Bukayo Saka caught Mendy off his line and chipped the ball back into the net for Arsenal’s third of the night.

Tammy Abraham pulled one back for the Blues five minutes before the full time and the comeback was on the cards when the visitors were awarded a penalty in the stoppage time, but Bernd Leno denied Jorginho from the spot-kick as the game ended 3-1 in the favor of Arsenal.
