The Senegalese winger’s injury-time winner at the Villa Park helped Liverpool maintain a 6-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Pep Guardiola accused Sadio Mane of diving after the forward’s headed goal helped Liverpool rescue two points at the Villa Park on Saturday.

The Premier League leaders looked set to drop two points against a stubborn Aston Villa before Mane scored a 94th-minute header to clinch all three points for his side.

Prior to making sure that Liverpool go into next week’s top-of-the-table clash with City with a 6-point cushion, the 27-year-old was booked for diving in the first half of the game.

That allowed Guardiola, whose Man City side came back from a goal down to win 2-1 against Southampton, to take a swipe at the in-form forward.

Speaking to the press after a late Kyle Walker strike helped Man City keep the pressure on Liverpool in the title race, the former Barcelona manager slammed Mane for ‘diving’.

“It's happened a lot for Liverpool in the last years [scoring late on]. It's because he's a special talent,” Guardiola talked about Mane while speaking to BBC.

“Sometimes he's diving, sometimes he has this talent to score incredible goals in the last minute. He's a talent.”

The two-time Premier League winning manager also heaped praise on the Reds for their late comeback at the Villa Park.

“If it's one time, two times, ‘we were lucky, we were lucky', but it happened in the last two seasons many, many times – they have a special character to do that.”

The reigning Premier League champions went unexpectedly behind against Southampton after a 15th minute James Ward-Prowse strike silenced the Etihad stadium.

Guardiola’s men didn’t down their tools and got the reward for their constant pressing in the 2nd half when Sergio Aguero leveled the game at the 70th-minute mark.

That goal seemed to break the resistance of the Saints who were looking quite stubborn before the Argentine’s strike, before a Kyle Walker goal four minutes before extra time secured all three points for the home side.

Guardiola added on his team’s victory: “We did everything, it was so difficult to attack when they defend with 11 players.

“We did everything we could and in the end, our intensity and our players paid off. We made a good comeback. Everyone plays the way we want to play.”
