After an inconsistent start to the new season, the under-fire Spurs boss is urging the club to splash the cash in the January transfer window.

Mauricio Pochettino wants Tottenham to complete a triple transfer swoop of Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes, Norwich City right-back Max Aarons and West Brom’s Nathan Ferguson in the January transfer window, reports the Daily Mail.

Spurs indifferent start to the new season might force club chairman Daniel Levy to go big in the transfer market only a few months after the club broke their transfer record to sign midfielder Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis in a £55m deal.

The last season’s Champions League runners up have started the 2019/20 campaign in a worrying manner, winning just three of their opening nine games in the Premier League.

Their form in Europe isn’t any better as despite being placed in a relatively easy group containing the likes of minnows Olympiakos and Crvena Zvezda, Spurs have won only 1 of their opening 3 fixtures in the Champions League.

Spurs to go back for Bruno Fernandes in January

Due to his team’s roller-coaster start to the new season, Mauricio Pochettino wants the club’s higher-ups to inject energy in his squad by making new signings in the winter transfer window.

Top of the Argentine’s wish-list is 25-year-old Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese international was heavily linked with the London-based club in the summer but a move failed to materialize after both the clubs failed to agree on the transfer fee.

Spurs weren’t the only side after Fernandes in the summer, with the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United also monitoring his progress in the Primeira Liga. However, if they attempt to sign him in January, the London-based club might not face any competition.

The other two options on Spurs’ wish-list are both right-backs. It shouldn’t be surprising given the fact that after the departure of Kieran Trippier for Atletico Madrid in the summer, Tottenham weren’t able to secure a replacement.

However, in contrast to Trippier who was a household name among Spurs’ fans, both the right-backs that are currently being linked with the club won’t cause excitement among the club’s faithful.

With Kieran Trippier leaving for Atletico Madrid and Dany Rose not at his usual best, Tottenham are targeting a double full-back swoop of Max Aarons and Nathan Ferguson.

Having signed Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham in a £25m deal in the summer, Tottenham already have a player who can play in the left-back role.

The priority for the club, therefore, is securing a new right-back who could resolve the defensive issues which have marred the club’s start to the new season.

Pochettino has drawn-up a two-man shortlist, with West Brom’s Nathan Ferguson and Norwich’s Max Aarons the manager’s favored targets to strengthen the team’s right back department.

However, the club will try and lighten up its wage bill before welcoming new signings. Spurs will look to offload Serge Aurier, Christian Eriksen, Danny Rose, Victor Wanyama, and Eric Dier should a suitable offer comes-in in January.
