Marcus Rashford reveals his penalty secret after scoring against Leicester

A first-half Marcus Rashford penalty helped Manchester United grab their first win since the opening day of the season as they comfortably saw-off a confident Leicester city side.

The home side got the lead early-on courtesy of a 7th minute penalty by Marcus Rashford, who seemed to have learnt his lessons after missing from his last attempt from the spot.

The 21-year-old striker converted the first penalty awarded to Manchester United this season during the 1-2 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace last month.

With Paul Pogba missing the next penalty kick awarded to United at the Molineux against Wolves, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told his players after that game that Marcus Rashford was to be the club’s designated penalty taker from then on.

However, the English striker wasn’t immediately able to repay the confidence his manager had vested in him, as he missed from the spot against Southampton a fortnight ago. Still, as suggested by his effort on Saturday, the Mancunian striker seems to have learned his lessons.

After his effort from 12-yards helped Manchester United grab crucial 3 points against Leicester, Rashford told MUTV the secret behind his prowess from the spot.

There has been a lot of talk [about penalties] but it is all about clearing that out of your head and just getting back down to basics,Marcus told MUTV.

When it comes down to it, that is all you know, to get to the first team, it is by doing the basics and working hard.

Rashford told the club’s official channel that to make sure that the opposition’s goalkeeper has little chance of saving his effort, he tries to look at him to decipher his movement in the build-up to the penalty.

“I just try to look at the keeper, especially a keeper like him because he has a good jump and likes to go early. If it is not hard and in the corner, then he has a chance of saving it. But it was a nice feeling to score.”

Leicester City came into Saturday’s game with hopes of showing the Premier League that they had what it takes to end the monopoly of the so-called big six over the top-tier of English football.

However, as suggested by the final scoreline of the game, the Foxes are still someway far behind the Premier League’s elite both in style and substance.

As for Manchester United, their performance against Leicester could have been better yet none of their fans would complain given the result which takes them back into the top four.

With the likes of Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba watching the game from the sidelines, it was a test of the depth of the squad which has come undone on so many occasions over the past few seasons.

Consequently, with Daniel James showing some nice touches of his own and Andreas Pereira getting some much-needed game time, this victory could prove to be a major confidence booster for the 20-time league champions.
