The 19-year-old has scored 40 goals in all competitions this season
Although it was previously reported that RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner was the first name on Real’s transfer wish-list, it now seems that Los Blancos have turned their sights elsewhere.
Multiple injuries suffered by Eden Hazard since his arrival from Chelsea last summer and the poor fitness record of Gareth Bale has seen Los Blancos struggle for goals this season. Luka Jovic, who signed from Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt for $67.5m last summer, has also failed to perform.
Given these alarming numbers, it is a no-brainer for manager Zinedine Zidane to try and sign a striker that could improve the club’s woeful form in front of the opposition’s goal next term.
According to a report by Marca, the recent suspension brought on football by the spread of coronavirus hasn’t stopped Los Blancos from going through with their transfer plans for the summer.
The report claims that while Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe remains the dream signing for the Santiago Bernabeu residents, they are aware that it is almost impossible for them to prise the French World Cup winner from Parc des Princes under current circumstances.
Neymar also remains on the club’s transfer list for now, but Real’s higher-ups now believe that his behavior won’t sit well in the dressing room. Besides, with Barcelona once again expected to move for the Brazilian in the summer, any chances of the 27-year-old moving to Madrid are remote.
Aside from that, Real might be forced to sign an attacker from Europe given that all the three non-EU spots in their squad have already been taken. And with Gareth Bale set to become a non-EU resident after Wales’ exit from the trading bloc in a few months, they have to sign a striker from within the 29-member grouping of nations.
The La Liga giants were previously linked with Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez, but his non-EU status has forced them to cool their interest in the striker.
Even though he won’t be turning 20 until next year, Haaland has already proved himself by scoring 40 goals in all competitions already this season.
The 19-year-old is reportedly valued at €75m by Dortmund, though Real believe that they’d be able to negotiate a lower fee for his services.
Apart from finding the back of the net 40 times already this campaign, Haaland has two assists to his name in all competitions this season.
