Los Blancos striker will spend the coming days in self-isolation as his teammates prepare for crunch Champions League clash with Manchester City.
Real Madrid striker Mariano has tested positive for the coronavirus and will spend the coming days in self-isolation, La Liga champions have confirmed on the club’s website.
The 26-year-old Dominican Republic international was the sole Madrid player whose test came out to be positive after the first round of screening. Real have confirmed on their website that the striker is in perfect health condition and following the self-isolation protocols at home.
His testing positive for COVID-19 has come at an unfortunate time for Los Blancos who returned to training on Tuesday ahead of the side’s crunch Champions League last-16 clash with Manchester City.
Zinedine Zidane’s men lost the first leg 2-1 at home and have it all to do when they meet Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad Stadium on August 7.
Arthur has indicated his unwillingness to return to Barcelona from holiday and wants the Spanish giants to terminate his contract with the club, reports Spanish news publication Sport.
The 23-year-old midfielder has already signed for Serie A champions Juventus in a player-swap deal that involves Barca getting Miralem Pjanic.
However, with the move not going through until the start of September, Arthur remains a Barcelona player and is free to play in the remainder of their Champions League 2019/20 campaign.
Quique Setien’s side were able to secure a 1-1 draw with Napoli when both the sides met for the first leg of their pre-quarter final clash in February. They need a goalless draw or a victory in the 2nd leg to confirm their place in the last-eight of Europe’s elite club competition.
Although the 33-year-old was unable to help his side win La Liga title, Messi was able to break several records in the recently concluded Spanish domestic season.
Barcelona forward Lionel Messi didn’t let his side’s failed attempt to retain La Liga title stop him from breaking a number of records in the 2019/20 La Liga season.
The 33-year-old scored 25 goals to become the first player in history to claim seven Pichichi trophies, while also making La Liga record 21 assists this campaign.
Messi was also able to complete 182 successful dribbles in the recently ended Spanish top-flight campaign, which is almost twice as many as what Nabil Fekir, the second name on the list with 98 successful dribbles, managed.
The Argentina international completed 16 of his 182 successful dribbles against Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid, taking his overall total to 130 successful dribbles against the Rojiblancos since 2008/09.
