Real Madrid transfer news: Five keys to the signing of Alaba

The 28-year-old center-back is on the verge of leaving Bayern Munich after he was unable to reach a contract renewal agreement with the Bavarian outfit .

Five factors will decide whether Real Madrid sign David Alaba on a free transfer next summer, claims Spanish news publication MARCA.

The first of those is the finances of Los Blancos. COVID-19 pandemic has forced Real to tighten their belts and prevented the club from carrying out any major signing in the summer. It may also have an impact on the club’s reported pursuit of the soon-to-be out-of-contract Bayern Munich star who may be available on a free transfer but won’t be cheap when you take his annual wages into account.

Another factor is related to the future of Sergio Ramos. The Los Blancos legend, like Alaba, will be free to negotiate with other clubs in January. But unlike the Austrian who is on his way out of his side, Ramos is expected to renew his deal with Madrid in the coming months. Whether his stay at Santiago Bernabeu expedites or ends Madrid’s pursuit of Alaba remains to be seen.

Then there are the futures of Madrid’s two centre-backs Nacho and Eder Militao. The former has been unable to nail down a permanent starting eleven spot since rising through the club’s youth ranks. Militao, meanwhile, has failed to justify the €50m transfer fee Real paid to sign him last year. Los Blancos want to offload the duo but are facing difficulty in finding their potential suitors.

The final two ‘keys’ in Madrid’s pursuit of Alaba revolve around the player himself. MARCA claims that the players has offers from Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea and would weigh his options before taking the next step in his career. This doesn’t suit Zinedine Zidane’s side who want to deal with the Alaba affair ‘calmly. All of this is to say that the Alaba to Madrid saga could drag on for a few more months.
