The Stamford Bridge residents are set to go head-to-head with the Catalan giants in the race for the 22-year-old Inter Milan and Argentina striker.
Barcelona are facing competition from Chelsea for the signing of Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, with the Stamford Bridge residents reportedly offering to pay the Argentine’s €111m release clause.
The reigning La Liga champions are looking to bolster their squad ahead of next season as they aim to build another title-winning side around Lionel Messi.
But with Chelsea entering into the picture, Barca would have to expedite their pursuit of the Nerazzurri striker if they wish to sign him in the summer.
According to a report by Spanish publication Sport, the Camp Nou side are aware that the Blues have presented an offer to both Martinez and his team.
It is also claimed that the terms Chelsea are offering for the 22-year-old are much better than what he has received from the Spanish side.
Frank Lampard is eager to bring the striker to Stamford Bridge and has agreed to pay his release clause of €111m in full, while also offering €10m+ in wages per season.
The package which the Blues had prepared and presented for Martinez unnerved the Camp Nou side when they learned about it a few weeks ago.
However, as per Sport, the Barca higher-ups are now relaxed as they feel the Argentine’s upcoming move to the Camp Nou is on the right track.
With both Chelsea and Barcelona willing to pay his release clause in full, Inter has left it to Martinez to choose the side for which he wants to play next season.
Sport claims that the player is aware of this and is not going to take long to reach on a final decision regarding his future.
His signing will be a boost for any club as, despite being only 22, Martinez has already shown what he is capable of with his performances in the Serie A.
The forward has managed 11 goals and an assist in 22 appearances in the Italian top-flight this season, while also scoring five goals in the Champions League.
