Revealed – Why Bruno Fernandes transfer to Manchester United is stalling

Bruno Fernandes' transfer to Man United might be in jeopardy
The 25-year-old has been in form this season

The Sporting Lisbon midfielder was reported to be on the verge of joining the Red Devils earlier this month but his move has appeared to hit a stumbling block since then.

Bruno Fernandes hasn’t already completed his long-rumored transfer to Manchester United because Sporting Lisbon aren’t satisfied with the bonus clauses United are offering as a part of the proposed deal.

The Portuguese playmaker has been linked with a transfer to the Premier League after exploding to the scene with his jaw-dropping performances in the 2018/19 season, in which he managed to score 33 goals in 55 games for Sporting.

Rumors circulating on social media at the start of this month claimed that the 25-year-old was on the verge of joining the Red Devils with many outlets reporting that Sporting’s Friday night clash with Benfica would be his last appearance for the club.

But with the weekend upon us and United set to take on fierce rivals Liverpool, there has been no visible development on the player’s reported transfer to United.

Sporting aren’t happy with add-ons in proposed Fernandes’ deal

According to the Sun, the Portuguese club aren’t happy with the bonus clauses Manchester United are offering as a part of the deal that will complete the transfer.

While they are happy with the £34m United are offering up-front, Benfica aren’t confident the player would meet the conditions that would require the Premier League club to offer a further £25.5m that they have agreed to pay in add-ons.

It is reported that the Red Devils are proposing that they would pay the extra amount if the player goes on to win the Ballon d’Or with the club, with United also winning the Champions League in the process.

Given the dire straits the 19-time Premier League champions currently find themselves in, Sporting aren’t confident that either of these things will happen, with the result that the Portuguese club are demanding more money upfront.

Amid reports that Sporting want to receive more money upfront, BBC has claimed that United are unwilling to meet the Portuguese side’s 80m euro valuation of the player.

Sporting are adamant that after the season which Fernandes had for the club last term, any club willing to sign him must agree to pay 80m euros for the 25-year-old.

Fernandes was rated at 45m euros by Tottenham in the summer and that’s more or less the amount that the Red Devils are willing to pay to land the player this month.

The report further claims that while talks are ongoing between United and Sporting, the Premier League side hasn’t ruled out the option of looking for alternatives should the two clubs fail to strike a deal for the player between now and the end of the month.
