Ronald Koeman wants Liverpool midfielder at Barcelona, Man United interested in Juventus duo and more

The 29-year-old Liverpool midfielder is yet to sign a contract that would extend his stay at the Premier League champions beyond next summer.

Ronald Koeman has told Georgino Wijnaldum not to sign a new Liverpool contract as the new Barcelona manager readies a move for the Dutch midfielder, as per Dutch outlet AD.

The 29-year-old attacking midfielder has less than a year remaining on his Liverpool contract and interestingly, talks regarding an extension are still to begin.

Wijnaldum was the ever-present member of the Dutch national team during the time Koeman was the manager of the side. The midfielder’s most prolific spell for his national side also came under the new Barca boss under whom he scored 10 goals in only 17 appearances for his country.

His uncertain future at the Premier League champions have seen Liverpool getting linked with a swoop for Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara this summer. Thiago, like Wijnaldum, also has a year remaining on his contract and would be a free agent at the end of next season.

With their pursuit of Jadon Sancho appearing to have hit a roadblock, the Red Devils have turned their attention to Serie A in search of reinforcements.

Manchester United have decided to expedite their pursuit of Juventus duo Alex Sandro and Douglas Costa, according to CalcioMercato.

The Serie A champions are currently in the process of going through their books as the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and have reportedly decided to cash-in on the in-demand duo.

United are increasingly keen on the signing of Costa who is valued at £36m by Juventus. The Old Lady are reportedly uncomfortable with the idea of paying his £5.4m annual wages, post-tax, for another year.

Costa’s fellow teammate Sandro, also 29, is also on the transfer radar of the Red Devils. The left-back has previously been linked with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain and is valued at around £36m by Juve.
