The 138th Revierderby will see Schalke and Borussia Dortmund go head to head in an empty Veltins-Arena on Saturday night in the Bundesliga.
Schalke will be aiming to make the most of Borussia Dortmund’s poor domestic form when both the sides face each other for the 138th Revierderby at the Veltins-Arena on Saturday.
Doing that is seemingly impossible for a Schalke side that is currently sitting at the bottom of the German top-flight, with nine points separating Christian Gross’s side from safety. Schalke have won only 1 game all season and are clearly the underdogs on Saturday.
Dortmund might be out of the title race but they could use what is expected to be their last top-flight derby with Schalke for at least two years to get back to winning ways in Bundesliga, having won just 1 of their last 6 games in the German top-flight.
Matija Nastasic, Steven Skrzybski, Salif Sane, Kilian Ludeeig, Frederik Ronnow, Gonacalo Paciencia, and Mark Uth have all been ruled out for the home side. Though Schalke could welcome back Nabil Bentaleb to their starting XI who returned from a long-term injury last weekend.
Dortmund are also dealing with their injury demonds, with Marcel Schmelzer, Thorgan Hazard, Lukasz Piszczek, Dan-Axel Zagadou, Roman Burki and Axel Witsel all ruled out of the Revierderby.
Possible Schalke starting lineup vs Dortmund: Fahrmann; Becker, Mustafi, Thiaw, Kolasinac; Stambouli, Serdar, Bentaleb; Raman, Harit; Hoppe
Possible Dortmund starting lineup vs Schalke: Hitz; Morey, Akanji, Hummels, Guerreiro; Can, Delaney; Sancho, Reus, Reyna; Haaland
