Sevilla Vs Real Madrid preview, team news, possible starting lineups and prediction

With Zinedine Zidane’s future reportedly up in the air, the pressure is on Los Blancos to turn their poor form around with a victory at Sanchez Pizjuan on Saturday.

Zinedine Zidane will be hoping his Real Madrid side bounce back from recent defeats when they face Sevilla in a crucial clash on Saturday.

The reigning La Liga champions have been humbled one time too many in the past few weeks in the Spanish top-flight, with their last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Alaves preceded by a 1-1 draw with Villarreal and a 4-1 defeat at Valencia.

While they do have a game in hand over high-flying league leaders Real Betis, Madrid’s real competition for the title this season seems to be with city rivals Atletico. Diego Simeone’s men sit just one point off the top, but they have two games in hand over Los Verdiblancos.

It is therefore imperative for the struggling Santiago Bernabeu outfit to put a few wins on the board otherwise their title push might be over before New Year. But getting back on track is easier said than done for Zidane’s men given that Sevilla, the team they’ll face next in La Liga, are in fine-form.

Although club captain Sergio Ramous has stepped up his injury recovery over the past few days, Saturday’s clash against Sevilla has come too soon for the Spaniard.

He will be joined on the sidelines by Eden Hazard and Federico Valverde. Belgium international Hazard, who has suffered more injuries (9) than he has managed goals and assists combined (7) for Los Blancos since his move from Chelsea last summer, is out of the game due to a muscle injury.

Valverde, meanwhile, broke his legs during Madrid’s 4-1 defeat at Valencia last month. Alongside right-back Dani Carvajal, who is another notable absentee for the Santiago Bernabeu outfit, the Uruguay international too won’t be traveling to Seville on Saturday.

As for the home side, Julian Lopetegui will be unable to call up the likes of Sergio Escudero, Suso and Marcus Acuna. The trio have been ruled out of this game with respective injuries and, alongside Carles Fernandez and Yassine Bounou, will watch it from the sidelines.

Not everything is doom and gloom for Sevilla after their mid-week thrashing by Chelsea, though. Having already secured qualification to the next round, Lopetegui rested Jules Kounde, Lucas Ocampos, Luuk de Jong, Fernando and Munir El Haddai for the game. All five are expected to return on Saturday.

With Sevilla winning six of their last seven home games in La Liga, they have a huge chance to eclipse Real Madrid in the league table with a win on Saturday.

However, despite their poor form of late, Madrid’s form in this particular fixture has been more than encouraging over the past few seasons. They have won their last three games against Sevilla, with the latest game between the two sides ending in a 2-1 victory for Madrid.

Throw into the mix the fact that Real haven’t tasted defeat in 10 of their last 11 away games in the Spanish top-flight, and their Saturday’s encounter with the high-flying Los Palanganas promises to be a pretty special one.

Possible Sevilla starting lineup:  Vaclik; Navas, Kounde, Carlos, Rekik; Jordan, Fernando, Rakitic; Ocampos, De Jong, El Haddadi

Possible Real Madrid starting lineup: Courtois; Vazquez, Varane, Nacho, Mendy; Modric, Casemiro, Kroos; Vinicius Jr., Benzema, Asensio

Prediction: Sevilla 2-1 Real Madrid
