Premier League, Everton 1-0 Chelsea
Carlo Ancelotti’s men move seventh in the Premier League after a narrow 1-0 win over in-form Chelsea.
Frank Lampard was short of attacking options for the Goodison Park visit as Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson Odoi sidelined with injury, while summer signing James Rodriguez was the significant absentee for the Toffees.
Everton looked sharp in the opening minutes and their talismanic man Dominic Calvert-Lewin won a penalty after Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy fouled him in the danger area.
Gylfi Sigurdsson, with his second goal of Premier League campaign, converted from the spot-kick to put the home side ahead. Blues responded well and drew a row of saves from Jordan Pickford as Reece James hit the post from a long-range.
The visitors pushed for the equalizer and in the 81st-minute, Mason Mount hit the woodwork from the free-kick. After the game, Carlo Ancelotti admitted that 2,000 returning fans played a major part in the win.
“The fans made a lot of difference, it was a different atmosphere. We only had 2,000 fans, but it made me happy, and I hope the stadium will be full as soon as possible.” Carlo added.
