Ten-man Villa beat Palace and climb sixth in Premier League

Aston Villa’s impressive run-of-form continues as Dean Smith’s men hammer Crystal Palace 3-0 to climb sixth in Premier League.

Despite going down to a man down in the dying minutes of the first half, Aston Villa showed great character to see of sluggish Crystal Palace and move to within five points of leaders Liverpool.

Villa, who went ahead through Bertrand Traore inside five minutes, went down to ten-man when Tyrone Mings was shown the second yellow for a foul on Wilfried Zaha. However, the numeric advantage didn’t stop the home side from scoring and defender Kortney Hause doubled Aston Villa’s advantage as he nodded home from Ollie Watkin’s rebound off the crossbar.

Anwar El Ghazi, who was denied twice by Guaita, finally found the back of the net in 76th-minute with an exquisite finish from an acute angle as Dean Smith’s team registered back-to-back 3-0 wins.

Up next for Villa is Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, while 13th-placed Crystal Palace will host potential title-challengers Leicester City on Monday evening.
