Ten most innovative teams in world football – ranked by study

In a news that will not surprise watchers of the Premier League, English football giants top the list of ten most innovative teams in world football.

Premier League giants Manchester City have been named as the most innovative team in the world by Sports Innovation Lab, a research and market intelligence firm.

Pep Guardiola’s side have taken the Premier League by storm since their takeover by Abu-Dhabi based group in 2008, with the club winning four league titles over the past decade, starting with their first Premier League trophy for over 40 years in 2011/12 season.

Sitting behind Man City on the list of most innovative teams is Real Madrid, with La Liga giants followed by Arsenal (3rd), Barcelona (4th) and Bayern Munich (5th). Manchester United have been ranked as the 6th most innovative football side and PSG, Juventus, Liverpool and AS Roma complete the top ten.

How the list of most innovative teams was prepared?

Sports Innovation Lab claims it assessed eligible teams on three criterion: technology alignment, revenue diversification and organizational agility. The research’s firm’s proprietary technology also analyzed more than 150,000 market signals and in excess of 8,000 data sources.

What is probably the most surprising fact about the list is that Man City aren’t only the most innovative team in football – they are the most innovative sports team overall, leaving behind several NBA, MLB and NFL sides.
