Wijnaldum to leave Liverpool for Barcelona

Three players Liverpool could sign to replace Barcelona-bound Georgino Wijnaldum

Barcelona in the summer.

Udinese midfielder Rodrigo de Paul is one of three players Liverpool can bring in to replace Barcelona-bound Georgino Wijnaldum, with the Argentine looking ready for a move to top European side after Leeds United failed in his pursuit last summer.

Although De Paul isn’t as defensively astute as Wijnaldum, who rarely if ever commits a mistake in his side’s final third, he’s more of a threat going forward. The Argentine is capable of making intelligent runs and has an energy that enables him to match the work rate players need to work in Klopp’s system.

Yves Bissouma – Brighton

Provided Jurgen Klopp decides to bring in a player with Premier League experience – one that De Paul obviously lacks, he could choose to bring in Bissouma who has been a revelation since his move to Graham Potter’s side on a five-year deal from Lille in 2018.

He may not come cheap, like any other Premier League star, but Bissouma will be more like-for-a-like replacement for Wijnaldum than De Paul. That’s because he sits at the base of the midfield like his Dutch counterpart and has the ability to rarely put a foot wrong in defensive situations.

Renato Sanchez – Lille

The 23-year-old Bayern Munich reject didn’t fare well during his one-year loan stay with Swansea, but he has performed excellently since joining Lille before the start of last season. Long gone is the habit of misplacing passes which many of his critics associated with Sanchez during his time in Wales.

Now the Portugal international is famous among his fans as a player who can play both centrally and wide, while also being the creative force that can turn defensive situations into attacking ones with precise balls through the midfield. Provided he overcomes his fitness issues, the Reds should check in on him.
