The former England international is not in United’s plans and has been left out of their squad for the group stages of the Champions League.
Phil Jones is eager to leave Manchester United in January after falling down the pecking order at the Old Trafford outfit, reports The Sun.
The 28-year-old has seen his importance at the club diminish following the arrival of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof in recent seasons, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer preferring youngster Timothy Fosu-Mensah and injury-prone Eric Bailly ahead of Jones.
United tried to get rid of the English centre-back in the summer but were unable to find any potential who were willing to meet their £20m valuation of the former Blackburn Rovers defender. The defender’s £100,000-per-week wages also served as a stumbling block in his exit.
However, after being left out of their Champions League squad and not playing a minute in any of United’s Premier League games so far this season, the 28-year-old is eager to move elsewhere in January in search of more first-team action.

Paris Saint-Germain are set to rival Manchester United for the signing of Inter Milan midfielder Christian Eriksen in January, per Todofichajes [via Goal].
The Denmark international, who joined the Nerazzurri in a €20m deal in January, has been unable to live up to the billing at the San Siro outfit.
Eriksen featured in 26 games for Inter during the 2019/20 campaign but managed only four goals for the side that ended up finishing runners-up in Serie A.
The 28-year-old has started the new season with his Inter career on the line, playing just 95 minutes for Antonio Conte’s side in their first four games of the competition.
The 39-year-old Swede has been in top form this season and scored both of Milan’s goals during their derby victory over Inter on the weekend.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been in talks with AC Milan to extend his contract with the San Siro outfit by another year, reports Corriere della Serra.
The 39-year-old striker joined Stefano Pioli’s side on an initial six-month deal last December, although the deal included the option for another season.
His performances in the 2nd half of last season, which saw the Swede score 10 goals in only 16 Serie A starts, convinced the Rossoneri to activate the one-year extension clause.
And after he started the 2020/21 season in equally grand fashion by scoring 4 goals in only 2 Italian top-flight games, the former LA Galaxy forward is looking to extend his stay at Milan for another year.
