Valladolid vs. Madrid: Casemiro’s winner puts pressure on La Liga leaders

Casemiro scored the winner as Real Madrid beat Real Valladolid 1-0 and close the gap to just three points on La Liga leaders.

Injury-hit Real Madrid secured all three points away at Real Valladolid as Zidane’s men keep the pressure on leaders Atletico. Karim Benzema was the latest player to add to the injury list, other significant absentees include Eden Hazard, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo and Dani Carvajal.

Set-pieces looked the only way of scoring for Los Blancos, but Toni Kroos’ excellent deliveries were well defended by Valladolid. However, in the 65th-minute, Casemiro finally managed to nod the ball past Jordi Masip.

But the star of the night was Madrid’s goalie Thibaut Courtois who pulled some stunning saves from Saidy Janko and Fabian Orellana and keep his clean sheet intact.

It was not a perfect display from Zidane’s men but the French man would be happy to claim all three points against second-bottom Real Valladolid. Atletico Madrid’s 2-0 defeat against Levante means Madrid are now only three points behind Roji Blancos.

What’s next?

Los Blancos will travel to Atalanta on Wednesday for their Champions League Round of 16 first leg, while Valladolid will face Celta Vigo next Sunday.
