The race for the top goal-getter in the Premier League further heated up after Aubameyang netted twice during Arsenal’s victory over Norwich City on Wednesday night.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang moved alongside Jamie Vardy in the race for the Premier League golden boot after his brace against the relegation-threatened Norwich City on Wednesday night took the former Borussia Dortmund striker to 19 goals for the season.
Both the strikers were in equally bad form before the Gabonese’s brace against the Canaries, as neither had managed to find the back of the net before yesterday. Vardy is yet to score since the restart of the Premier League as those below him eye the Englishman’s top spot in the goal-scoring charts.
Those players include former Southampton striker Danny Ings, Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero. The trio has managed 18, 17 and 16 goals respectively, though Aguero’s season-ending injury has effectively ruled him out of the race for the Golden Boot.
Given the form of the other four players and the matches that they are yet to play in the final few weeks of the season as well as their form in recent weeks, it looks like that Aubameyang, Ings, and Salah will battle it out among them for the Golden Boot.
Karim Benzema wasn’t snapped up by Barcelona in 2009 because the Catalan giants didn’t like the French striker’s ‘lack of eye contact’ during the meeting.
AS has reported that current Man City director of football Txiki Begiristain, who was then the technical secretary at the Camp Nou, was given the charge by the Catalan outfit to meet and convince Benzema over a potential move to Barcelona.
However, despite meeting with the French striker in his home in Lyon, Begiristain decided against signing him for the Catalan outfit. One of the reasons he gave against his signing was that the Frenchman didn’t look at him during their conversation.
After scoring 17 goals in the recently concluded Bundesliga campaign, the 20-year-old England international has been heavily linked with a return to the Premier League.
Manchester City manager’s Pep Guardiola’s admission that it is impossible for the Citizens to re-sign Jadon Sancho has handed a major transfer boost to Chelsea in their pursuit of the winger.
Frank Lampard’s side have already brought in the likes of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech and continue to be linked with a summer move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.
Sancho is another of the players who are on the Stamford Bridge’s outfit’s transfer shortlist as they continue to strengthen ahead of next season.
The club faithful believe that the addition of the 20-year-old to their squad would turn Chelsea from Champions League qualifiers to Premier League title contenders.
