Smartphone cameras captured the footage of the Spurs’ defensive midfielder climbing the stands moments after the final whistle on Wednesday night.

Following the end of their 2019/20 FA Cup campaign on Wednesday night, Tottenham Hotspur’s season took another turn for the bizarre.

Jose Mourinho’s men had come into this game as favorites against a Norwich City side that has won only one of its last five games in the league and currently finds itself at the rock bottom of the Premier League table.

Spurs’ started the game in perfect fashion as a glancing Jan Vertonghen’s header beat Tim Krul and gave the home side the early lead. But a nervy display, coupled with a poor performance from Michel Vorm who bundled a Josip Drmic strike into his own net, took the game to penalties.

And after the Norwich goalkeeper became the hero by saving three of the home side’s penalties, an incident involving England international Eric Dier took the spotlight away from Krul by providing an even bigger talking point.

How the Dier episode unfolded?

As the game ended and Norwich’s players started celebrating a big scalp, their Spurs’ counterparts were left stunned in the middle of the park.

One player who was particularly unhappy with himself was Gedson Fernandes, the on-loan midfielder from Benfica who had missed the crucial fifth penalty that sent his side out of the cup.

Dier stepped forward to console the player along with a member of his side’s coaching staff and helped the Portuguese, who was in tears by that time, walk of the pitch.

However, while his fellow players followed the lead of Fernandes down the tunnel, Dier, who had one eye on the stands, made his way toward the advertising holdings.

As soon as he got off the touchline, the England international jumped over the advertising holdings and made his way higher into the stands, much to the surprise of Spurs fans.

Fan footage of the incident showed that the midfielder, after leaping over several rows of seats, was shouting towards someone while being held back by the ground security.

Speaking after the game, Mourinho explained that some insults were hurled in Dier’s way from the stands and his brother Patrick, who was in the stands at the time, got involved.

That left Dier with little choice but to take matters into his own hands, apparently to save his sibling who was watching the game from the sidelines.

However, the midfielder wasn’t the only person belonging to the club who had made his way into the stands, as a member of Spurs’ coaching staff had followed him into the crowd, before he joined Dier and the security.

Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident as the man who had angered Dier had exited the stadium after showing his middle finger to the 26-year-old. As many as 10 Spurs fans stopped Dier who was then led into his team’s dressing room where his brother also joined him later on.
