Why Liverpool will not lift title at Anfield, La Liga restart date confirmed and Klopp speaks to transfer target

The reigning European champions are poised to end the club’s 30-year-long wait for the Premier League title when the English top-flight resumes next month.

Police have made it clear that any match in which Liverpool could wrap up the title won’t be played at Anfield, dashing hopes of the Reds’ faithful to see the reigning European champions lift the Premier League trophy at home soil.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were 25 points clear of second-placed Manchester City when the English top-flight was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic in March. The Reds need only two more wins from their remaining 9 games to wrap up their first title in three decades.

However, given the anticipation surrounding the potential fixture in which Liverpool will be crowned champions, the English Police have made it clear that they won’t allow any such game to be played at Anfield, even behind closed doors.

This was confirmed in a latest Premier League statement released Friday. The statement made it clear that the English top-flight has a ‘neutral venue contingency’.

With both the Premier League and Serie A set to resume in the 2nd half of June, La Liga is planning to get back in action in the first half of next month.

Spain’s National Sports Council has confirmed that the Spanish top-flight will return to action on June 11, reports ESPN FC.

The announcement has come barely a few days after the Spanish government gave professional sport the permission to return from June 8.

Sevilla will take on Real Betis in Seville derby in what is expected to be the first La Liga fixture since coronavirus forced the suspension of the league in March.

Other matchday 28 games, including Real Mallorca Vs Barcelona and Real Madrid Vs Eibar will be played between Friday, June 12 and Monday, June 15.

Although Liverpool already have four center backs on their payroll, the transfer rumor mill continues to link them with a summer swoop for the Senegal international.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has spoken with Kalidou Koulibaly to convince the centre-back to a summer move to the Merseyside, reports Le10Sport.

The 28-year-old Senegal international, who turns 29 next month, has been a towering presence in the heart of Napoli’s defense since joining the Serie A outfit in 2014.

His brilliant performances almost led the Rojiblancos to their first Scudetto in almost three decades last season before Juventus held on to their nerves and carried home the prize.

It is now claimed that in a desperate attempt to raise cash, Gennaro Gattuso’s side are keen to offload their prized-asset in the coming summer transfer window.
