Why Tottenham are struggling this season, Lyon President reveals Real Madrid and Man Utd were after wonderkid and more

More than a year after they finished 4th in the Premier League and ended up as the runners up in the Champions League, Spurs sit at 8th place in the 19/20 table.

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has attributed his side’s poor form this season to their inability to recover from last season’s Champions League final defeat, reports Sky Sports.

Spurs had a dream 2018/19 campaign as they saw off the likes of Manchester City and Ajax to qualify for the first Champions League final in the club’s history.

Their league form wasn’t any far off as 23 victories during the season saw Mauricio Pochettino’s side eclipse the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United to finish at 4th in the table.

However, their poor form this season has been a shadow of the year past, with Spurs winning just 11 of their opening 29 games in the Premier League. They have also been dumped out of the Champions League pre-quarter final stage by RB Leipzig and face an uphill task to qualify for next season’s competition.

The 16-year-old French prodigy who has already signed his first senior contract with Lyon has been tipped to emulate Kylian Mbappe.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has told Telefoot that both Real Madrid and Manchester United wanted to sign Rayan Cherki before the 16-year-old signed his first professional contract with the Ligue 1 outfit.

The 16-year-old prodigy, who can play on either wing, up front as a sole striker, or in the number 10 role behind the main forward, has been dubbed as one of the brightest prospects of French football.

His remarkable rise through the ranks of Lyon has seen Cherki made six appearances in the French top-flight this season, with the Frenchman also making his Champions League debut earlier this campaign.

Cherki has already made it known that his ‘dream club’ is Real Madrid, sparking rumors that Los Blancos might end up becoming the next destination of the versatile forward.

Tottenham return to Premier League action against Manchester United next weekend knowing that a win would brighten their chances of finishing in the top four.

Tottenham’s preparations leading to their Premier League re-opener against Manchester United have been less than ideal after they lost one friendly and the other was cancelled.

Spurs restart their domestic campaign with a crucial home fixture against 5th placed Manchester United knowing that a victory would reduce the points difference between both sides to a single point.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils, who are currently sitting at 5th place in the table after garnering 45 points from their opening 29 games in the Premier League, are just four points above a struggling Spurs’ side that has had their work cut out for them due to repeated injuries this season.

However, with Delle Alli missing the game due to his one-match suspension and Spurs not getting as much game time in their stride as their counterparts across the league after their friendly with Reading was cancelled, they have endured an unwelcome run-up to the game.
