Ings to Tottenham? Southampton striker stalling on new contract

After scoring 7 and assisting three goals in only 12 Premier League starts, the former Liverpool striker is reportedly eyeing a move to a Champions League club.

Danny Ings has stalled on signing a new Southampton contract amid rumors Eurosport.

The 28-year-old forward, who was on Spurs’ transfer radar in the summer, has scored 7 goals in only 12 Premier League starts this season, after scoring 22 Premier League goals in the previous campaign, and has been the major reason behind Saints’ push for a top-half finish.

Unsurprisingly, his elite form at the South Coast hasn’t gone unnoticed, with Tottenham keeping tabs on the forward who is reportedly keen to play in the Champions League as he vows to do what injury prevented him from during his time with Liverpool.

Do Tottenham – and Ings – need each other?

While it is undisputed that a move to the North London outfit would be a step up in the striker’s career, it is difficult to imagine a scenario in which he’d be playing every week for Jose Mourinho’s side, which already has Harry Kane and Carlos Vinicius at the helm.

Kane has again been in excellent form this season and so is Vinicius who has made his presence felt with some excellent displays in the Europa League. That Ings would be able to dethrone not one but both of them to get a starting line up spot at Tottenham therefore seems a far-fetched scenario.

Spurs too might not benefit that much from the arrival of the England international. Unlike Vinicius who arrived at the club with the knowledge that he’d be playing second fiddle to Kane, Ings would expect a starting XI spot, barring which his unhappy attitude might sully the dressing room’s atmosphere.
