- Dele Alli won’t be joining Paris Saint-Germain on loan for the remainder of the 2020/21 campaign
- The 24-year-old Tottenham star has fallen down the pecking orders at Spurs this season, starting only 5 games in all competitions
- But despite his precarious situation at the club, the midfielder would be staying put at North London for the remainder of the season
Giovani Lo Celso’s injury and Tottenham Hotspur’s inability to bring-in a midfielder in January scuppered the chances of Dele Alli joining The Guardian.
Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, who only recently appointed former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager, had been in talks with Tottenham for some time to find an avenue that would see Alli join them in the ongoing transfer window.
Spurs however ended up deciding against letting Alli leave because they felt they would be left short in case the England international leaves the club in the middle of the season, a concern further exacerbated by the injury suffered by Giovani Lo Celso.
The Argentina star was forced off during Spurs’ 2-0 defeat against Leicester City in the middle of December and hasn’t kicked a ball ever since. The Guardian claims that Mourinho is resigned to the idea of being without Lo Celso for almost all of February.
Why Dele Alli didn’t go to PSG?
Aside from the injury suffered by Lo Celso, two more factors contributed to Spurs’ decision of blocking Alli’s potential move to PSG. The most important among them is that the club are still in four competitions and cannot afford to be a man short in such circumstances.
Their inability to re-sign Christian Eriksen, who joined Inter Milan from Spurs last January, also ended up making sure that Alli would remain in London for the foreseeable future. Eriksen was made available to Spurs but the club didn’t had the funds required to complete the transfer.
