Summer signing Thiago Alcantara is expected to start for Liverpool when the Reds face Southampton on Monday night’s late kickoff.
Liverpool paid a sizeable transfer fee of $26m, plus $5m in add-ons to Bayern Munich to sign Thiago in the summer. The 29-year-old’s arrival at Anfield raised hopes of the Reds’ faithful who had seen what Thiago was capable of doing by witnessing his performances in Munich.
However, while he has oozed class every time he has been on the pitch for the Reds, the Spain international has endured a bad luck with injuries during his first-year in England, which is why he has started only 1 league game for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season.
But with Naby Keita ruled out due to another injury and Thiago making a cameo during the Reds’ 0-0 draw with Newcastle United in midweek, it is expected that the Spaniard will put his injury woes behind him by starting for Liverpool at the St. Mary’s on Monday night.
His wife wanted Thiago to return to Barcelona in the summer
Everything might have been different for the 29-year-old had he taken the advice of his wife, hotel owner Julia Vigas. The stunning blonde reportedly wanted his husband, whom she married in June 2015, to return to Catalonia which she left alongside him when Thiago joined Bayern Munich in 2013.
However, with Thiago adamant of seeking a new experience in his career, the 29-year-old eventually left Bayern to join the Reds in the summer. The Reds fans will be hoping that the hospitality they have showered on Thiago will convince his wife to change his mind now that the couple is in Merseyside.
